Going Solar Process Overview
Buying solar panels from Forme Solar is fast and simple. We use an online process to provide the best valued system and fastest time to install.
- Step 1: Signed Agreement and Initial Onboarding
Complete a signed contract. After you place an order, you will be assigned a dedicated project manager. Your project manager will reach out to inform you with next steps with regards to your specific project. - Step 2: Home Site Assessment
A professional site assessor from our company will visit your home and examine the roof and other features to make sure they can support a solar system. The three key areas that we look for during a site assessment are:
- Existing Electrical Service Panel
- Roof Condition and Paper
- Roof Dimensions, Vent Locations, Shading
On the day of your Site Assessment, a professional assessor will arrive to collect any HOA documents and survey the site, take roof and sunlight measurements, and note any possible repairs or upgrades that need to be made to accommodate your solar system.
-
Step 3: Engineering and Permits
Your dedicated project manager will then verify and approve the solar building plans to be submitted to the city for permits. Our primary focus is to meet city regulations, and our second priority is to maximize our customers’ return on investment.
Engineering Plans
We will create a solar design considering highest production, layout aesthetics and your feedback from the Site Assessment data.
Permit Process
We will work with your local city to file permits for your system. Depending on your location, this may take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks. - Step 4: Installation
When your system is ready to install, we will reach out to schedule a date for your installation. Installation is finished the same day for most systems, and you only need to be at the house during the first hour. Systems installed with a battery backup will be activated and configured after we gain approval from the utility to activate the solar system.
Inspection:
We will work with your local building department to arrange for an inspection after installation is completed. Additional inspections may be required in some AHJs for installations that include an electrical service panel upgrade.
Utility Approval:
After the permit is complete, we will work with your local utility company to switch you over to solar billing and get permission to activate the solar system. If your system includes a battery backup, it will be installed and deactivated, while we work with your local utility provider to obtain Permission-to-Operate (PTO). After approval is provided we will return to commission the system. - Step 5: Power On!
Utility company grants PTO. We will notify you when it is safe to turn on your system.
